Advanced Digital Technologies in Lifelong Learning.

Thursday, April 20, 2023   5PM Paris, 11AM New York, 8AM California

In Europe and around the world, new skills-based approaches to job-training and job placement are emerging. Many of these job training programs are being offered online, some within existing national educational frameworks, and others offered by private sector enterprises.

This one-hour free online panel discussion of high-level experts will examine this trend in detail with a special focus on the use of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), on lifelong learning and related employment opportunities.

Three expert panelists will explore the roles of employers, government, standards-setting groups, policy, educational institutions, industry groups, and individuals to assess the impact of advanced digital technologies on lifelong learning. The key issues under consideration will include the degree to which AI and other advanced technologies are changing the job market, while at the same time changing the way lifelong learners can prepare for those jobs. The panel will focus on skills-based approaches to job-training and how they can maintain currency in the face of rapidly changing technologies, jobs, trends in globalization and re-nationalization of markets, manufacturing, and service sector occupations.

The conversation will be moderated by Hal Plotkin, senior scholar at the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) and former senior policy advisor on higher education in the administration of U.S. president Barack Obama.

Richard Culatta
