Digitally Signed Credentials and Open Badges: Micro‐credentials in practice
First D-Dialogues session : join us for a practical overview of educational credentials, how digital credentials and micro-credentials enter the discussion, and how they can become part of and managed in your everyday life. This online workshop is led by the Institute of Continuing Engineering Education of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. We are targeting learners, educators and employers alike, who would like to be prepared for the addition of digital credentials into their line of work.
The educational eco-system in the European Union and worldwide is undergoing vast transformations. Digitalisation and digital transformation, progress in new technologies, the ever-changing needs of the labour-market, specialisation, the need for transversal skills and competences, mobility and globalisation of the work-force, as well as the momentum of online education at all education fields (VET and post-secondary education, Adult Education, Higher Education) and levels (formal, non-formal, informal) are calling for new, more flexible ways in the provision of knowledge and skills, and eventually the validation thereof.
Short‐term, open learning opportunities (eg. SLPs) leading to micro‐credentials such as digital badges are responding to this challenge, and help to widen the scope of learning and skills development opportunities, introducing the lifelong learning dimension in higher education, rejuvenating its ties with industry, and reaching out to more social groups of different age, besides the traditional community of students entering higher education after secondary education. Micro‐credentials in this aspect is a novel but fast developing type of credentials in Europe and other parts of the world as a response to the fast changing skills needs of the labour market, as well as a possibility to recognize non‐formal and informal, open learning across diverse social groups
